I’m thinking this morning about the bible verse quoting Jesus, in John 14:verses 1-3 - “In my Father’s house are many mansions - if it were not so, I would have told you.”…a bible verse which is most usually interpreted as referring to God’s creation of a heaven in which our anticipated arrivals, as believers, will be welcomed and honored. But this morning, I am realizing a slightly different interprestation, more related to the events of our material, physical world in which we live…of our nation - today. The reference to “my Father’s house”… I suddenly saw as refering to the world in which we are all blessed to live, as God created it. If we are all truly the children of God, as the bible teaches us we are, then this world, this “Father’s house” - is the land in which we live, at this moment in our lives, and share with our sisters and brothers… I see the reference to the “many mansions” as meaning the many faiths, many races, many nationalities…that each of us, as “His children” have been taught to believe. I see different religions as more related to where we landed when we arrived on this planet. That, for the most part, determined whether we were born into the Christian faith, the Jewish faith, the Muslim faith, Islamic faith, or any other faith built around the worship of, and believe in, God. And I do not understand why we as children of God…brothers and sisters under the same “Divine” umbrella over our many mansions…are inclined to kick our brothers and sisters out. Whether we kick them out by disprespecing their religions or races or places of origin…they are all our brothers and sisters. If we look back over the centuries, we can see that the many religions and faiths were brought to light to try to accommodate the needs of the people who lived in that world at that time, in that culture. You may not agree with this viewpoint but I just had to share, so thanks for listening!
